Deep Groove Ball Bearings Types, Design and Applications

Deep groove ball bearing is a common type of bearing and is used in many industries, from heavy machinery to high precision devices. This type of bearing consists of four elements that include an inner ring, an outer ring, a cage containing balls, and ball bearings. Due to the flat surface of the outer ring and inner ring, deep groove ball bearings provide a larger contact area providing high performance and high load capacity. Although deep groove ball bearings come in hundreds of designs and sizes with different designs and even different materials used in the inner ring, outer ring, and cage, they are basically classified into 4 main sections.

TYPES OF DEEP GROOVE BALL BEARINGS

Based on different designs, structures and ultimately applications, there are mainly 4 types of deep groove ball bearings. Let's see what these deep groove ball bearings do and what is the main difference between them.

Single row deep groove ball bearings

In this particular type of deep groove ball bearings, the cage is made of pressed steel, which gives it a high load capacity and flexibility. It is one of the most widely used types of deep groove ball bearings. This type of bearing is manufactured with open bearings or with steel or rubber protectors depending on the requirements of the device. Other materials are also used instead of stamped steel to make the cage.

Extra small bearings and miniature ball bearings

As the name suggests, in this type of ball bearings small balls are used as rolling elements and we can basically divide them into two categories which are deep groove and angular contact. Miniature deep groove ball bearings are divided into five subcategories which are standard type, flanged outer ring, widened ring, thin section, and extended inner ring.

Maximum type of ball bearings

This type of ball bearing comes with a much higher number of ball bearings compared to other types of deep groove ball bearings and due to a large number of ball bearings used this particular type of deep throat deep groove ball bearings offers high precision and high performance. This type of bearing can be open or protected depending on the application and requirements. The cages of this type of deep groove ball bearing is made of stamped steel to provide high performance and load capacity.

MAGNETO DEEP GROOVE BALL BEARINGS

The inner ring of this type of bearing is slightly deeper than other types and due to a single shoulder on the outer ring, it can be removed for maintenance or assembly. These types of deep groove ball bearings are well known for providing high precision and are available in smaller sizes compared to other types. Some of the main applications for this type of ball bearing are gyroscopes.
